A killer new banger to pop off the New Year, “Poppin Off” is the first single from an up and coming group of young artists who call themselves “Watch the Duck”. Put this song on at any party and your guaranteed to get a good response. Although it doesn’t qualify as strictly Hip-hop it does contain a portion of it. Instead it is a beautiful mix of soul, rap, trap, dubstep, electro and dance. Throw the best of each genre into a blender, place on “liquefy” for a few seconds and this is what would emerge. Some are calling it trapstep. Not bad eh? The Atlanta based group consists of three members, Jesse on vocals, Jonathan on keyboards and Eddie focusing on the bass. When combined they produce a revolutionary sound. One that simply makes you want to move.

“It gives us an opportunity to do what we can do and what we always wanted to do, which is push the musical envelope, push the boundaries and be ourselves doing it,” Jesse says. “We’re very serious, but when we get down, we want to have fun. To me, it represents freedom.”

Gaining popularity at first by hosting house parties, which is depicted in the music video below, the group now has two mixtapes. The first, Rub-A-Dub being a soulful blend of R&B and dubstep and the second, which just dropped earlier this week, Black Music on Molly easily displays the groups creativity and uniqueness sound. Both of which can be downloaded directly from the groups’ soundlcoud page (hover mouse over the picture for a link). It is clear that these young, up and coming artists are still mastering the revolutionary sound that they have crafted as they continue to push the boundaries of music and the industry. Expect big things from these guys for the New Year so keep your eyes and ears open and remember to Watch The Duck.
